DOUBLE WEDDING
SISTERS WEAR SIMILAR FROCKS OF IVORY SATIN HAWKINS—MEEK PARKIN—MEEK | I Last Monday a double wedding of I great interest was celebrated at the Presbyterian Church, Whangarei, when Eileen Poppy and Grace Elizabeth, | daughters of Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Meek, f °f King Street, Whangarei, were marI ried to Walter Browne Hawkins, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. Hawkins, Kohukohu, and William Arthur Parkin, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Parkin, of King Street, Whangarei. Tho bi'ides were given away by tksir father and Mr. E. Stainton, their brother-in-law. They were frocked alike in ankle-length gowns of ivory satin beaute, with wide hems of tulle lace, embroidered in silver. The tightfitting bodices were finished with rows of shirring at the front and bows from neck to the waist at the back. The veils, which featured the becoming bonnet effect, were beautifully embroidered and pleated on to silver caps, with orange blossoms arranged j over the pleats. Each bride carried a lovely shower bouquet of early spring 1 flowers. ( The brides were attended by their j sisters, Olive and Joyce. who were I gowned alike in frocks of daffodil geor- j
; gette with daintily flounced skirts finished with tiny diamente buckles and velvet bows down the back. Their headdresses consisted of gold lace bonnets with pleated bands of tulle and long velvet ties, and they carried bouquets in pastel pinks and yellows. Also in attendance were two little 1 flower girls, Connie Parkin and Flor- I ence Craven, who wore dainty little j frocks of rose celanese ■with touches of cream georgette and rose velvet rib- ! ! bons. They carried tiny posies and j wore bonnets similar to thbse of the I bridesmaids. ] Mr. Hawkins was attended by Mr. S. Knightly, of Motukaraka, and Mr. Parkin by his brother, Mr. Lewis Parkin. Tho mother of the brides received her guests in a handsome ensemble of delphinium blue duchesse mousselaine with java brown accessories and smart blue hat. Mrs. Hawkins, senr., wore a smart blue gown of celanese with vest of silk ecru lace, and shoes and hat to tone. Mrs. Parkin, senr., wore a stylish tweed costume in a light cinnamon shade, her smart hat and scarf being relieved with eau de nil, and they carried autumn tinted bouquets. After the ceremony a reception was held in the Regent Ballroom, which was gaily decorated in shades of rose and gold. Mrs. Parkin travelled in a smart tweed ensemble in fawn and nigger, with touches of scarlet, while Mrs. Hawkins looked smart in a tweed ensemble in fawn and tobacco shades, relieved with shrinip qyepe de chine.
