“Insult to Italy”

COAT-QF-ARMS TORN DOWN Incident in Queensland CABLE DISPATCHED TO MUSSOLINI FOR tlie second time the Italian Coat-of-arms has been torn down from the office .of the Vice-Consulate at Innisfail in Queensland, and complications are expected when Mussolini receives the cabled report which has been dispatched. This message suggests Italy has been insulted.

United P.A.—By Telegraph—Copyright Reed. 10.30 a.m. BRISBANE, Today. A message from Townsville states that the removal of the Italian Coat of Arms from outside the vice-Consulate at Innisfail for the second time is accepted by the Italians in Northern Queensland as a gross insult. Intense excitement exists at Innisfail, where it is considered complications may develop as a consequence of the outrage. The Italian Consul has lodged a protest with the Federal and State authorities and has transmitted a cabled report of the affair to Signor Mussolini, Prime Minister of Italy. ITALY SNUBBED FRANCE WILL COMPETE IN BUILDING WARSHIPS PARIS, Friday: As a result of the recent violent speeches made by the Prime Minister of Italy, Signor Mussolini, it is unlikely that the French Government

will resume negotiations regarding naval strengths with Italy at present. A Note from Italy sent on November 3 has not been answered, and will remain unanswered until more favourable circumstances exist. “Pertinax,” writing in the “Echo de Paris,” says that now that Italy has shown that she intends to persist in her original naval programme, France will be constrained to revive hers, and even to reinforce' it considerably.
