LAMP EXPLODES
FIRE DESTROYS HOUSE CADET SEVERELY BURNED Special to TUB SUN PUTARURU, Friday. A benzine lamp exploded in a fourroomed house owned by New Zealand Perpetual Forests 35 miles from Putaruru. A cadet, Mr. Alan Mills, aged 21 years, received severe burns, and was later admitted to the Waikato Hospital. The house was destroyed. The benzine lamp was in the room where Mr. Mills was working when it exploded. The flames spread rapidly to the house. Mr. Mills was severely burned about tho face and chest before the others in the house could give him assistance, and some of his clothing was burned off him. He was brought into Putaruru by motor-car, and was later taken to the Waikato Hospital. His condition tbs evening was reported to be satisfactory. The flames soon obtained a strong hold of the house, and in the absence of any fire-fighting equipment it was completely destroyed. Most of the valuable surveying instruments in the house were saved.
