HISTORIC READY
GREAT RACE LAST SATURDAY CONCENTRATE GALLOPS WELL (Special to TH E SU A J WELLINGTON, Monday. Concentrate pleased his connections by a good gallop over a mile on Saturday morning. Accompanied by Dolomite over the first part of the journey. and Oral over the second portion, he ran home in 1.44, w.hich is a very good effort on the outside of the trial grass at Trentham. It was stated at Carterton on Saturday that L. G. Morris is making excellent progress toward recovery from his recent accident, and that he will be fit to ride Concentrate in the New Zealand Cup on Saturday next. Historic registered a fine performance at Carterton on Saturday, and his Cup supporters are heartened in consequence. He was started in the open six furlong race with 9.13 on his back. Gave Ten Lengths Start Being caught in the tapes at the start of the race, he lost anything up to ten lengths, and trailed the field for several furlongs. Then he worked up speed, and had it not been that Wanderlust carried him -wide on the home turn he would have won in spite of his original handicap. It was a wonderful effort, and despite his weight the big chestnut should run a great race in the New Zealand Cup. El. Gray •will not be able to attend the C.J.C. meeting, at which he had offers of a lot of good riding. He has had to go North to fulfil engagements to ride some of the team of J. T. Jamieson at Whangarei. and will also ride at the Waikato meeting. Rabbi has .recovered well from the foot trouble he had last week, and should do well in his engagements at Riccarton. The Oaks candidate Duellona scored nicely at Carterton, but only in maiden company. However, she ran on very strongly from the turn for home after being one of the leaders all the way. It has taken Duellona a long time to strike form, and she paid a ridiculously big dividend in a weak field. Imateagirl ran her best race to date when she won at Carterton. The manner in which she buried the opposition in the run home was excellent, and she should be heard of again in her turn.
