Waitemata Athenians’ Gay Revel

Committee Members in Oriental Costume j SUCCESSFUL GATHERING ; Every available foot of dancing space was occupied on Saturday evening when the Waitemata Athenian Club held its monthly revel at Takapuna. Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Kissen acted as club host and hostess and were responsible for a memorable evening. included a contingent of j members of the Auckland Athen- j ian Club, headed by the president, Mr. \ Wilfred Wright. An excellent programme of musical, | elocutionary and vocal items was pro- j sented, the contributing artists being : Mrs. H. Osborne, Miss Stella Lees, Mr. Rix Yates, Mr. Reginald Richards, Mr. Mervyn Adams, and Mr. Ron Muston. A humorous sketch given by Miss Laura Walker and Mr. Frank Greene was heartily applauded, also an Eastern dance given by Miss M. Fuller. The Bristol Dance Band played splendid dance music, the accompaniments for the vocal items being played by Mrs. M. Osborne.

It being an Eastern evening, the women of the committee were attired in the brilliant costumes worn by Eastern women. The multi-coloured beaded frocks and fascinating head-dresses of Turkey, Arabia and India were represented,. while harem skirts gave a quaint touch to the scenes. The ladies’ committee comprised ) Mrs. B. Kissen, Mrs. R. E. Bridgman, Mrs. E. A. Wilson, Mrs. J. L. Foster, Mrs. H. Lorimer and Mrs. A. ‘Watt. Others present included: Miss Ida Tucker, in a petalled frock of azure blue shot taffeta with blue and dawn medallions; Miss Unice Wilson, whose frock was of black spotted net over black satin; Miss Rona Wilson, in a frock of lemon net over lemon silk; Mrs. A. Robinson (Hamilton), who wore parchment lace with pink and blue rose spray. Mrs. C. Wiseman, sen., whose frock was of alice blue charmeuse; Mrs. C. Wise, jun., in petalled black georgette with oriental shawl. CYCLAMEN GEORGETTE Mrs. F. J. Hooker, in a gown of cyclamen georgette and lace with brocaded silk wrap; Mrs. Claude Brinsden, wearing duchess blue georgette and lace; Mrs. E. V oodward, jun., in old-gold crepe de chine with pastel pink relief; Mrs. E. Woodward, sen., who -wore a petalled frock of ciel blue celanese satin; Miss X. Woodger, in a. frock of powder blue satin, tulle skirt and embroidered black wrap; Miss R. Lewis, wearing pink net over shell satin with silver lame wrap; Mrs. R. Middleton, whose gown was of black lace with royal blue coat; Mrs. Ernest Wilson, in a beaded frock of blue and black georgette; Mrs. Bryce Hart, who -wore floral chiffon over lime taffeta; Mrs. H. C. Levett, in kingfisher blue satin with blue chiffon velvet relief; Mrs. E. McLeod, wearing blue brocaded crepe de chine; Mrs. Daulton, in a, frilled frock of powder blue tulle; Mrs. W. B. Darlow, who chose electric blue chiffon velvet and silver lame; Mrs. A. Tysoe, sen., wearing sea green crepe de chine and silver lace.

Nightingale (Pukekohe), who wore black georgette gown; Mrs. Renshaw (Pukekohe), in a frock of pink crepe de chine, with black frilled wrap; Mrs. Macklow, who chose black georgette and lace, with embroidered wrap; Mrs. M. Moses, wearing a frock of lemon tulle and georgette; Miss S. Meadow (Hamilton), in a frock of ivory georgette and silver lace; Mrs. S. Levin, who wore pink georgette and tulle, with salmon georgette wrap; Mrs. R. Williams, in heavily beaded flame georgette, with black reliefs; Mrs. Percy Free, whose frock was of pink georgette, with fringed black wrap; Mrs. Wyatt,' wearing a frock of black embossed georgette; Mrs. L. B. Esam (Hastings), in an embossed blue chenille gown, with oriental chenille wrap; Mrs. Weatherilt who wore black georgette, with embroidered black shawl. BLACK RING VELVET Miss Laura Walker, in a gown of black ning velvet, with tulle frills; Miss Ida Walker, in black satin, with lace flounce and diamente reliefs; Mrs. M. Osborne, who chose black Spanish lace and a velvet bridge coat; Mrs. C. Munro Emanuel, in a beaded frock of black georgette; Mrs. J. F. O’Connor, who chose brocaded ninon and gold lame; Mrs. Ivo Esam, wearing a frock of black lace over pink satin; Mrs. P. Close, in pink tulle and black net; Miss D. Brighton, who chose navy velvet, with chiffon frills; Miss M. Fuller, in a nile green crepe de chine frock. Miss K. Wise, who wore a princess robe of sequined shell pink georgette, with bow of silver lame; Miss J. Marsh, in apple green georgette; Mrs. A. D. Maxwell, who wore absinthe green ring velvet with fringed ivory wrap; Mrs. C. Leys, in a floral georgette frock, with lace reliefs; Miss B. Esam, in a beaded frock of duchess blue georgette: Miss Beryl Belsham, who chose a frilled frock of pink georgette; Mrs. Alex. Eagleton, in shell pink georgette, with chenille motifs; Mrs. R. Clarke-Johnson, wearing cornflower blue taffeta and cream georgette, with black shawl: Miss E. L. Paton. in a frock of black satin and georgette; Mrs. de L. Cameron, in a frock of black and silver lace, with uneven hem; Miss Vera Marchant, wearing a frilled frock of old-gold taffeta: Miss Wilkinson (Hamilton), wearing blade georgette, with golden floral border; Mrs. Williams, in an oriental beaded gown of indian red satin.
