JOCKEY’S NIGHT OUT
ACTED LIKE MADMAN ON NEAT WHISKY LURID LANGUAGE USED “I have never heard a worse case of obscenity for years,” said Sergeant Cruickshank, in the Onehunga Police Court today, when Samuel Michael Dillon pleaded guilty to four charges of disorderly conduct, obscene language, resisting the police, and damaging Government property at the lockup. In describing the behaviour of Dillon, who is employed in a racing stable, the sergeant said that accused had been drinking whisky neat at a social, and had acted like a madman. His friends had held him down for three-quarters of an hour, but when released he attacked them violently. After his arrest he had smashed objects in the cell, and yelled obscenely for the greater part of the night. Hitherto he had borne qji excellent character, but the language used could not be Condoned. Mr. A. R. Ormrod, who appeared for accused, said that a conviction would mean loss of employment for accused. The presiding justices, Mr. F. C. Soar and Mr. H. J. Davies, held that the charges were too serious to be overlooked, and accused would have to put up with the consequences. Mr. Ormrod: He has had several spills and has been in hospital seven months with injuries to his head Mr. Davies: The bench must sunport the police. Dillon was convicted on the charges of disorderly conduct and resisting the police and fined £2 for using obscene language, and ordered to pay -10 s, the amount of the damage in the cell.
