SETTLERS UP IN ARMS (From Our Ou» Correspondent) TE AROHA. Friday. In an effort to check the continuid discharge of sewage into the Wiiilioii River by the Te Aroha Borough Coun - cil Mr. F. M. Strange, of Manga it.. lias in the past called several meetings of the Manga iti settlers to protest against the menace. The second meeting of the settlers took place on Wednesday, when a fai • representation of the settlers affected were present, and Air. F. Alace presided. Mr. Strange said that the nuisance concerned the Alangaiti people, \vhos«* farms lower down the river relied on the river for water. Te Aroha was a growing township, and if somethi:' was not done soon the thing would become a national menace. The speaker said th.it the deputation appointed previously had waited on the borough council, but nothing had been done. A letter had bee.i despatched to Dr. Chesson, pointing out the danger, and stressing the fact that the State Advances Office had sanctioned the granting of a loan fo.r extension of sewage in Ruakaka. Dr. Chesson wrote saying that the river above Te Aroha was already polluted, but he did not advise taking steps to force the borough council to put in purification tanks at present.
