SIGNS OF TARIFF WAR
NEW ZEALAND PRODUCE IN AUSTRALIA PRODUCERS ARE PERTURBED Reed. 9 a.m. SYDNEY, Today. “Signs are not wanting,” says the “Evening News” in a leaderette, “that a tariff war is likely to develop between Australia and New Zealand. The Primary Producers’ Union at Grafton declares that during the past four months £30,000 worth of North Coast produce has been displaced by imports from New Zealand, consequently the North Coast people are trying to move the Tariff Board. And it seems a reasonable and attainable ideal that Australia should be at least self-supporting as far as food is concerned.”
