BIRTHDAY PARTY A delightful party was held at the residence of Mrs. R. Bird, in Clonbern Road, Remuera, on Saturday evening, in honour of her daughter Hilda’s birthday. The guest of honour, who was charmingly gowned in flame satin, with a gold overdress, received many pretty and useful gifts. The evening was enjoyably spent in games and dancing, and musical items recorded by Miss M. Matthews and Mr. A. Cleaver were much appreciated. The house was gaily decorated with coloured streamers and balloons. Mrs. Bird received her guests wearing a frock of black embossed crepe de chine. CLICK CLACK CABARET A large number of dancers spent a very pleasant evening at the Click Clack Cabaret on Saturday evening. Air. Clyde Howley and his famous Internationals were in good form and their bright numbers were very much appreciated. Glorious red and gold chrysanthemums had been arranged in the lounge downstairs. Cox, flame taffeta frock with deep hem of gold lace. OLD THAMES GIRLS A jumble sale was held in St. Matthew's school room on Saturday afternoon by the Old Thames Girls’ Asspciation. There was a large attendance of buyers and the results were very successful. At the end of the afternoon the committee held a meeting and decided to supplement the returns of the sale from its own funds, making the amount up to £25. This it decided to donate to the various social workers of the city for the fuel fund for the winter.

| WAITEMATA ATHENIAN CLUB BRIGHT OPENING AT TAKAPUNA The true Athenian spirit was in the I air at Takapuna on Saturday evening, ! when the opening night of the Waitei mata Athenian Club proved a most unqualified success. Dancing, vocal and elocutionary items, and a comedy sketch, wiled away a most enjoyable evening. The contributors were: Miss P. Lewins, Miss Freda Crosher, Miss Kathleen Conway, Mr. J. Petterson, Miss A. Armstrong, and Mr. E. Armitage. Dance music was supplied by George Poore and his orchestra. Mr. J. W. "Williamson, the Mayor of Takapuna, addressed the guests, and wished the new club every success. The other speakers were Mr. Bryce Hart, president; Mr. W. W. Wright, president of the Auckland Athenians; and Mr. Percy Free, past-president of the Auckland Athenians.
