If these requests are carried out counting when the booths close at 7 p.m. will be expedited and simplified. VOTES BY DECLARATION . Ee °I lle must not be misled by the statements of some candidates in the matter of voting by declax’ation,” said Mr. Notley. “An elector may only vote by declaration if he has complied with the requirements as regards registration, and if his name (toes not appear on the “roll for no fault of his own.” In voting the elector will strike out the names of the candidates for whom it is not wished to vote. As long as the elector leaves untouched a number of names equal to the number of vacancies his paper will be valid. If too many names are left on the paper none of the votes will count. The elector may, however —although it is not desirable—leave a lesser number than the 21 names required for the City Council. Thus he may vote for only six or any other number lower than 21, and still have his paper allowed. In the case of an elector spoiling a ballot-paper another may be secured from the clerk, but the spoilt paper must be returned to the clerk. This is, of course, to prevent any unscrupulous person from voting twice. A full list of polling places is advertised elsewhere.
