BONES OF CRIMINALS
NOVEL STRIKE OCCURS AT MELBOURNE WORK FOR UNDERTAKERS '(Australian and N.Z. I*t'ess Association) Reed. 10.18 a.m. MELBOURNE, To-day. A novel strike occurred when builders’ labourers on the old Melbourne gaol site, where excavations continue, unearthed the remains of executed criminals. They left their work, demanding 30s a day, and that an undertaker shall remove the bones. These terms were agreed to. Over 20 skeletons have been dug up. Most of the graves were despoiled by souvenir-hunters.
