WORK APPRECIATED
CHAIRMAN OF HARBOUR BOARD ASKED TO STAND AGAIN A request that Mr. H. R. Mackenzie reconsider his decision not to stand for the position of chairman of the Auckland Harbour Board was made yesterday by Mr. Campbell Johnstone. In his annual report Mr. Mackenzie stated that it would be the last annual meeting at which he would preside, and that he desired to thank members and officials for the support which had been given him during the last seven years. In moving that the report he adopted, the Hon. E. W. Alison said that it was a pleasure to find that the financial position of the board was so satisfactory and so sound, and that the requirements of the port had been so well provided for. The chairman had carried out his duties in a highly satisfactory manner. The policy which had been pursued during his term of office was a sound and progressive one, and he trusted that the same policy would be pursued in the future. Mr. Campbell Johnstone said that everyone had appreciated the work which had been done and the manner in which the chairman had done it. It would be a much better thing fgr the hoard if Mr. Mackenzie reconsidered his decision. Perhaps he would do this later on, and again take over the chairmanship of tliA board.
Mr. Mackenzie reminded Mr. Johnstone that he had yet to be elected to the board as a member.
