OTAHUHU GROWING
NEW £7,000 BUILDING Another addition to the many new shops in Gtahuhu will be a £7,000 block built for Mr. A. E. Thomas, well-known business man, in the outer suburban centre. The new building is to occupy a site, next to the Otahuhu Post Office, on which a business was first conducted in IS4S. The property was bought from Mr. John Hall. Otahuhu’s growth within the past three years has been phenomenal. About 20 new shops have been built and there has been a big increase in frontage space. There have been many renewals. Property values in Otahuhu are increasing with the growth of commercial life in the borough. Besides Mr. Thomas’s new block of buildings, another block is now being built and a big building has just been completed.' A start lias been made with work on Mr. Thomas’s property, which is 164 ft deep and has a frontage of 83ft The block will be brick with ornamental concrete facings and will have five shops on the ground floor, with office space on the second floor. A modern bakehouse will be an important part of the building. Construction should be complete in three months’ time. The architect is Mr. Albert E. Williams, of Auckland, and the building firm is Stanton and Coveney, Auckland.
