PUKEKOHE FIRE BOARD

ERECTION OF NEW STATION (From Our Own Correspondent) PUKEKOHE, To-day. The chairman, Mr. J. Routly, presided at the adjourned annual meeting of the Pukekohe Fire Board yesterday. A welcome was extended to the two new members representing the insurance companies, Messrs. H. S. Malcolm and A. E. Moore, who replace Messrs. H. M. Didsbury and W. G. Bell. The chairman advised that arrangements had been made for an insurance policy covering firemen going to, from, or while at demonstrations, and while attending practices other than those provided for in the board’s regulations. The Pukekohe Fire Brigade asked that the annual contribution to the brigade’s fund be increased from £25 to £ 50. The request was declined owing to the board’s heavy financial commitments for the current year. The board approved the plans and specifications of the proposed new fire station. The estimated cost, with furnishings, is £3,500. The question of arranging for a loan and of obtaining the Minister’s sanction was left to the Pukekohe members. A contract has been let for £76 10s for the installation of additional fire alarm boxes, and arrangements made with the P. and T. Department to take over and maintain the lines and alarm conductors at a cost of £l6 10s petannum to the board. The estimates for the year were presented and approved. The estimated expenditure is £ 665 10s, made up as follows:—New station preliminary expenses, £100; maintenance of brigade, £127 10s: maintenance of plant, light, power and phones, £65; contingencies, £SO: new fire alarms, new hose, etc., £203 10s; interest, rent, office and travelling expenses, £77 10s: insurance, £32. The financial year ended March 31, 3 929, showed a credit balance of £206, which leaves £450 to be found by the contributing authorities.
