BRITAIN’S BIG INCOMES WHAT TAX RETURNS SHOW (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) LONDON, Thursday. The report of the Commissioners of Inland Revenue for the year ended March 31, 1928, shows that the number of people chargeable with income tax in Britain and North Ireland in that period was 2,904,000. The gross income under reviev/ was £2,904,000,000. This is the lowest total since 1918-19, and was reduced by the exemptions allowance to £1,300,000,000. The net produce was £228,000,000, the lowest for 10 years. The supertax statistics for 1926-27 show that 94,676 incomes exceeded £2,000 a year and 147 exceeded £IOO,OOO. A British official wireless message says the report shows that there were between 500 and 600 millionaires in Britain in 1928 and that 299 people were In receipt of incomes of between £50,000 and £75,000 a year; 97 people had incomes of between £75,000 and £IOO,OOO.
