MOUNT ALBERT ROAD
LOAN TO BE RAISED HIGHWAYS BOARD SUBSIDY The projected work of concreting Mount Albert Road from the Royal Oak to the boundary of the borough of Mount Albert was advanced a stage at the meeting of the Mount Roskill Road Board last evening. A letter was received from the Main Highways Board notifying that it had agreed to subsidise the work on a £1 for £1 basis. The distance to be laid in concrete is about three miles, of a width of 18 feet, with four feet sealed scoria shoulders on either side, but no provision is made for kerbs or’ footpaths. The Highways Board’s estimates for the current year include a sum of £IO,OOO for this work. The board agreed to refer the question to the Finance Committee, with instructons that arrangements be put in hand for a loan for submission to the ratepayers. The chairman urged that the project be expedited, so that the work may be started before Christmas.
