CITY BOWLING CLUB MAKES PURCHASE
NEW GREEN.FOR CARLTON Thirty-five years ago, the Carlton Bowling Club began its existence with a modest four-rink green at Newmarket. To-day, it is in the happy posi-" tion of having one of the most up-to-date grounds in the Dominion. But the club is not resting at that. This morning an important step was taken, whereby an adjoining property has been purchased for the purpose of laying down a new green. The work will be put in hand at once, the total cost being well over £I,OOO. The Carlton Club was the first club in Australasia to start winter play, and now, with the extra green, it is proposed to cater more largely than ever for winter bowls. A feature of the general layout of the greens will be the fact that all the greens will lie in one straight line. The club will be in a position to hold a tournament bigger than the Rotorua tourney, if it so desires, as a tota.l of 30 rinks will be available for play.
