LEAGUE RUGBY
SLUMP IN HAMILTON CODE IN PARLOUS PLIGHT DESPONDENT PLAYERS (From Our Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, To-day. The unsatisfactory position of the League code here was revealed at the annual meeting of the Hamilton Rugby League, held last night. The report stated that football throughout the season had not been all that could be desired. There were four senior teams, but no juniors, and there were times when the standard was much below that required. Judging by opinions expressed at the meeting, it is extremely doubtful whether the Hamilton League will continue functioning as a separate body. It was thought unlikely that United would place a team in the field, and the Whitiora delegate was not present. Mr. Perry said it was useless opening a competition with only two teams, and a suggestion was made that the clubs should affiliate with Lower Waikato League as it seemed the only thing to do. Mr. Perry said he would call for nominations for officers for the ensuing year to see how much interest still remained in the code, but he resigned the position of secretary. Three refusals were received for the position of treasurer and four for that of chairman, for various reasons put forward. Mr. Perry: I am now convinced that the Hamilton Rugby League cannot carry on under existing conditions. The only thing to do seems to be to merge with Lower Waikato. After nominations were again sought officers were elected. The question of the future of the code in Hamilton will be discussed at the first meeting of the management committee.
