N.Z. FINAL

i WOMEN’S GOLF. | - ; | AUSTRALIAN CHAMPION- ! SHIPS. Mrs. Fullcrton-Smith And Miss 0. Kay To Meet. HAWERA PLAYER FAVOURED Press Association —Copyright. Adelaide, Sept. 1. A cloudy sky and a slight breeze made conditions excellent for the semi-finals of the women’s golf championship of Australia played to-day at the Seat?a links, Mrs. Fullerton-Sraith (New Zealand) beat Mrs. Negus (Western Australia) 5 and 3. Miss 0. Kay (New Zealand) beat Miss Hutton (Victoria) 2 up. The final over 36 holes will be played to-morrow.

Miss Kay had a hard fight against the Victorian. Both played exceptional golf. Miss Kay had an approximate round of 77 and Miss Hutton 80. The first six holes has had a hoodoo over Miss Hutton and she was three down to-day at that stage. This deficit was too great to enable her to square the match. Miss Kay was out in 39 to stand 2 up. She lost the seventh to a birdie >wo and the eighth to a four. She won the long ninth in a par five and took the tenth. She lost the twelfth to another birde two, The thirteenth was a bad hole. Miss Kay took three to reach the green and then took three putts. At this stage she was only one up. The next four holes were halved and Miss Kay won the last in a par four for the match.

Neither Mrs. Fullerton-Smith nor Mrs. Negus played to her best form. Mrs. Negus was at fault on the greens, missing easy putts. She was two down at the turn but should have been square. Mrs. Fullerton-Smith was out in 44 and Mrs. Negus in 46. The New Zealander had a birdie three at the tenth. She had putting lapses at four holes after this, but the West Australian was unable to take advantage of them. Mrs. Fullerton-Smith took three putts at the short twelfth, missing a two-footer but stymieing her opponent to take the hole and stand four up. She won 'he thirteenth with a six and lost the next tc a par four, making her dormie four. She won the fifteenth in a par five for the match.

Form suggests Miss Kay as the winner, but Mrs. Fullerton-Smith v/ill be her strongest opponent yet. Victorian Amateur Championships. Press Association —Cooyvight.
