To Inspect Teleprinter. An invitation to members of the Stratford Chamber of Commerce, to inspect the new teleprinter installed in the Stratford Post Office, has been given by Mr I). McCready, postmaster .
£3314 In Building Permits. Building permits to the value of £3314 were issued by the Stratford borough inspector, Mr A. E. Sayers, during the month of August. Residences totalled £3009, a garage £65, a shed £l5O, and repairs to residences £95.
Mortgage Legislation Review. Widespread interest in Central Taranaki has been aroused by'. Mr E. S. Ruthorfurd’s review of the mortgage legislation running through The 1 Post this week and from all parts of the district there has been a demand for extra copies. The fourth instalment will be published to-morrow.
Road At Inglewood. The question of taking over Mountain Road between Inglewood and Devon Line as a State highway had already been referred to the main highways board, said Mr. P. Keller, the board’s Taranaki representative, yesterday, in answer to an inquiry by the Inglewood County Council. The board had advised the matter would receive its careful consideration.
Stratford Cycling Handicaps. The handicaps for the Stratford League Cycle Club’s weekly race tomorrow, a distance of 30 miles to Egmont Village and back, have been declared as follows: Stockman, Mclvor, Law, scratch; Bicknell, Pittams, Kovaleski, Jmin; Waite, Imin; Coleman, Craig, 2min.; Campbell, 6min.; K. Webb, 7min.; L. Slade, 9min.; J. Slade, Winmill, lOmin.; Webb, llmin. Hockey Postponed. The Taranaki men’s and women’s representative hockey matches against King Country, which were to have been played at Victoria Park, Stratford, to-day, have been postponed and will be played next Wednesday, September 9. A Taranaki men’s hockey team left yesterday morning for a tour of the East Coast and will return in time to play King Country next week.
Badminton Championships. The first New Zealand badminton championships and handicap tournament to be held at New Plymouth, and the tenth in the history of the series, began at the Coronation .Hall last night, when players in the handicap and B and C grade championship sections were in action. The majority of the entrants were from Taranaki, but to-night numbers of leading exponents from outside centres will begin playing.
Work of Rural Credits Directors,
A message of appreciation from the Rural Intermediate Credits Board of the work of the directors and secretary of the Stratford Co-operative Rural Intermediate Credit Association Ltd. was conveyed by Mr J. C. Robins, district supervisor, to the annual meeting of the association yesterday. As far as he was concerned personally, said Mr. Robins, his job of supervisor had been made a very easy one by the capable men in charge of the affairs of the association.
Salary Increases. Deferred from two previous meetings, the question of increases in salary for the four members of the inside staff of the Inglewood County office caused a debate that lasted for more than half an hour at yesterdays’ monthly meeting of the council. It was finally decided to grant increases of 10/- a week each to two office girls and to defer the consideration of bonuses for the clerk and the engineer until next March, when it was suggested the county’s position would be clearer.
