ILLEGAL TACTICS
FEATURE OF FIRST WRESTLING
MATCH
Press Association—Copyright Auckland, April 29
The American heavyweight, Cy Williams, ushered in the 1935 wrestling season in a somewhat spectacular manner at the town hall when three seconds from the commencement of a professional bout with Sam Burmister he feigned to shake hands, but dropped his opponent with a heavy jolt to the jaw to take the first fall with a press.
It was a fitting prelude to a lively and boisterous bout which, falling short of what was desired from the point of wrestling, lacked little in illegalities and showmanship. Burmister took the equalising fall by a submission fall in the third round, and the bout ended in the fourth round when Williams was disqualified for repeatedly kicking his opponent on the face and body and other illegal tactics. There was a poor attendance.
