PROTEST DISMISSED

VALPAI’S WIN AT AVONDALE YESTERDAY Press Association—Copyright Auckland, April 29. A protest against Valpai after his victory in the Hobsonville Hurdles was dismissed by the judicial committee of the Avondale Jockey Club. The protest was entered by Mr. G. Hodgson, owner of the second horse, Thespis, under rule 88, clause (b), of the Rules of Racing covering restrictions on the granting of gentlemen riders’ certificates. Rule 88 states that no gentleman rider’s certificate shall be granted to any person who is, or has at any time, been engaged in a livery stable or who is, or has at any time, been directly or indirectly engaged in the business of training; or riding horses.

It was alleged the winning rider, J. Muir, had been engaged in training horses, including Valpai and Illuminagh. Muir stated he had been associated with the working of horses and had also made a visit to Dargaville with them, but he had received no remuneration,., having made the journey for the sport. The decision to dismiss the protest was made unanimously.
