EVICTION OF SOLDIERS
PROTEST MADE BY R.S.A, AT CHRISTCHURCH
Press Association—Copyright Christchurch, April 29
Protests against the eviction of returned soldiers from their houses and properties were made at the annual meeting to-night of the Christchurch branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association. A motion was carried urging the incoming executive to do its utmost to see that all returned men who had purchased homes in boom times should be given every assistance to retain them. The meeting also carried resolutions requesting the association’s headquarters to endeavour to obtain from the Canteen Funds Board at least £25,000, and from the War Funds Council £20,000 for the relief of unemployment among returned soldiers during the next 12 months. Support was given to a resolution that in view of returning prosperity the Government be asked to restore cuts in economic and dependants’ pensions.
