A plea of guilty to the theft of a gold chain valued at £B, Catherine Ziarno, aged 18 years, appeared before Mr. J. H. Salmon. S.M., at a sitting of the Magistrate’s Court at Wanganui yesterday. The evidence throughout the case was of an unsavoury nature, and the magistrate, after examining an unfavourable report from the probation officer, made an order for the accused to be detained at the Borstal Institution, Wellington, for a period not exceeding two years.
