ENGLAND V. SOUTH AFRICA. SEEMINGLY HOPELESS TASK FOR VISITORS. (Received 11.10 a.m.) LONDON, July 20. Rain delayed the start of tho test cricket. England {declared Jfor Saturday's total, 437 for 7 wickets. Bowling: Quin 2' for 95, Cincent iJ for 93, Mitchell 1 for 21. South Africa in their first innings made 130—Taylor 28, Cameron 13, Morkel 63. The others did iiot reach double figures. Bowling; Freeman 7 for 71, Gentry 2 for 18. South Africa followed on and made 1-5 for 3 wickets. The pitch was wet after twentyfour hours' rain, and began toi cut up. The early English bowlers bowled leg breaks, with disastrous results for the Africans, whose innings lasted 185 minutes. Africa, batted for fifty-five minutes in their second innings.—Australian P.A.
