CALF REARING

GROUP IV. JUDGING. Further judging of calves entered in vthe rearing competitions conducted in South Taranaki by the Boys' and Girls' Clubs' Association was carried out yesterday, when Group IV., comprising the Te Roti, Mangatoki, Finnerty and Matapu schools, was visited. Messrs P. Bremer (condition), J. R. Oorrigan (type), and Rod Syme (Agricultural Department) were the judges. At each place vj&ited the judges gave short addresses on. the rearing of calves. Mr Bremer emphasised the importance of warmth and good shelter. Plenty of clean fresh water was essential, he said. Calves should be given an armful of hay daily", a food that they greatly enjoyed. Brushing the calves was also advocated. Mr Corrigan congratulated the Mangat'oki children on their entriesl They were all good calves, he said. The type of the first three was also commendable, said Mr Bremer. Considering the high country on which they were reared, the Finnerty Road calves were a very fair lot, said Mr Bremer.
