MUTTON BIRDS.

IMPORTATIONS INTO NEW ZEALAND. TASTY DISH TAXED. Press Association—Copyright. (Received 10.15 a.m.) Hobart, July 15. The Flinders Islands mutton-bird packers are gravely perturbed at the action of the New Zealand Comptroller of Customs in classifying the birds as preserved meat instead of as provisions, as formerly. This will mean an additional forty per cent., approximately 16/8 per hundred, on the birds, which it is stated will absolutely block Tasmanian importations to New Zealand. The matter will be brought before ’ the Federal Tariff and Industries Board at the earliest opportunity.
