Minister. and had bben 'appfWed by him. A notice would accordingly bo published shortly in, the New Zealand Gazette specifying the date on which the Education Board should cease to exercise control over the school, and the sole control thereof should be vested in the board of managers. Someone had evidently sot to work behind the scenes, and had Used influence with the Council of Education to have the resolution passed, said the chairman of the board (Mr S. G. Smith, M.P.) The old school was used by the Education Board as a model country school, for manual classes and for teachers’ classes, while it was used only a® a temporary expedient by the board of managers for woodwork and cookery classes.
Ho ha® sent a telegram to the Minister protesting against the gazetting of th 0 transfer, of control until he had been given an opportunity of stating the board’s case. In the first place, the board had not been allowed to state its case, and' secondly, the school was of much more use to the board than to the Technical High School Board of Managers. Mr A. Lees considered that the board should make every effort to resist the taking aiway from the board of the control of the school. On his motion, the board decided to endorse the chairman’s action in sending the telegram, and to take such steps as were necessary to prevent if possible the gazetting of the notice legally effecting the transfer of control.
