The commander of the Emden informed the captain of one of the sunken vessels that he expected to be captured, but he would make a good run for it. PROTEST FROM ITALY. Hundreds have been picked up, A NARROW ESCAPE. THE TAINUI'S PROXIMITY TO THE KAISER WILHELM. (Received 10.40 a.m.) Hobart, October 2. Tlie Tainni reports that she was barely 100 miles distant from the Kaiser Wilhelm der Grosse when the latter sank the Kaipara.
