Viscount Gladstone (Governor-Gen-eral) has appointed a commission with Professor S. Chapman, Manchester as chairman, to inquire into the wages, working hours, cost of living, and cost of production in Witwatersrand and other centres compared tc other countries. The commission will also inquire into the question of tin establishment of a minimum wage, payment of overtime, and night work.
