Mrs Mackworth, daughter of Thomas Welsh, a coal owner, has been arrested for placing acid in the Newport letter box.
Miss Harriet C. Newcombe, honorary secretary (pro tern) of the Women Suffrage Union of the British Dominions Overseas, writes from Sydney, under date June 20, as follows : —“The idea of a Woman Suffrage Union of the British Dominions Overseas, which originated in New Zealand in March last, has met with ready and enthusiastic approval from very many women of different political sympathies in Australia. An invitation has now been sent to the leaders of the suffrage socities in South Africa khd Canada, inviting tire co-operation of these societies in the formal establishment of this union. The news has been communicated to the London Women Suffrage press, -and reliefs ; expressing recognition of tht, significance of the step in the pi ogres a of the woman’s movement are now beginning to arrive. The outline scheme for this political union among the women of Greater Britain lias no a been sent to the president of the International Woman Suffrage Alliance, who will announce the news officially to tliQ great congress which is held this week in the ancient city of Budapcst;, Hiuigary.”
