WOMEN’S PATRIOTIC LEAGUE. [Peii Press Association.] Wellington, April 21. When the Imperial Government accepted New Zealand’s offer of a battleship the Women’s Patriotic League organised a subscription for the purpose of making a gift to the vessel. After consulting Captain Halsey, tv League’s committee has decided that the presentation shall take the forn of a pair of silver kettlq-drums. Cap tain Halsey said that the League conk, give nothing that would be more ap predated than the drums, which woulc be used on all occasions, and in the hour of battle would stir the heart oi each member of the, crew. The Higl Commissioner is to select the drumf in London, have them suitably inscribed and presented when the vessel returns from the world’s cruise. ABOARD THE SHIP. w-OiTV i — ii UTd This afternoon large crowds visited the warship. Up to Sunday eveninp 80,000 people' lM ; inspected the chut - er, Sunday’s total being 19,000. VISIT OF MAORIS. A number of prominent members cl the Maori race went out to H.M.S. New .Zealand this morning, and welcomed Captain Halsey and his men in picturesque speeches. They also presented several robes and a Tangi wai pendant to Captain Halsey, who after returning thanks, entertaine' the natives and presented them witmementoes of the ship. Among the Maoris were Mr C. R. Parata, Majo Tunuirangi (of Wairarapa, who com manded the Maori contingent a Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubiie celebrations), Te Heu lieu Tukin (Taupo), and Hefti Terei (chieftainess of the Ngatiraukawa tribe).
ITINERARY CANNOT BE ALTEREI
Since the announcement of the it inerary to be followed by H.M.S. Nov Zealand, several requests have beer received for calls at places not on the itinerary. It has been found impossible, however, to make any alteration, and the ship will adhere to the pxmgramme as published last week.
