THE NEW PLYMOUTH SHOW.

A RECORD ATTENDANCE. Though hardly a drop of rain fell in Stratford yesterday, at New Plymouth rain fell solidly, affecting very considerably the attendance at the Taranaki Agricultural Show. Bad weather, notwithstanding, the gate takings were £l6O as against £llß last year, so that the gathering'must have been a record one. Local enthusiasts who visited the show speak exceedingly well of it. In many respects the Show may suffer in ’ comparison with either Stratford or Haweraj but in the fat cattle classes, and in the dairy sections. Jerseys, Holsteins, and Ayrshires, the other shows were not “in it.” Undoubtedly the show was a success. The grand parade, and the competitions, went off well, and throughout the afternoon the interest of patrons was sustained. Stratford was particularly well represented among the dogs, the majority of which went up to New Plymouth under the charge of Mr T. Kirkwood, who also worked hard at the show, and proved one of the most energetic of stewards. It would bo difficult indeed to imagine a Taranaki show, without “Tom” busy somewhere in the dog section. Among the Pointers, Mrs E. Wasley had a win with Whanga,, and Mr Edward Mason with Comet. In the Setters’ class, Mr T. Kirkwood scored with Opmet, a youngster under 12 months. County Countess, Erua Belle, and County Belle were successful, and Mr Kirkwood certainly scooped the pool in this class. County Prince, however, ran second to Mr C. Ooodson’s Gordon Setter, Shot. Rifle Shot, Mr E. Mason’s collie, had a win, as also did Mr A. A. Cuthbertson’s collie, Mattie. Mr C. E. Seabright annexed a “red” with his bull-dog, Truro Major. Among the Skye Terriers, Mrs J. Brake’s Portree Bonny Skye had no equal, and in the Fox Terriers, Mr \V. H. Masters, though beaten in some of the classes, secured a win in the brace. In the variety class, Messrs Seabright and Kirkwood had several wins.
