STATE COvVS diseased. (Received- 8.0 a.m.) Sydney, December 2. A number of milking cows ;u the Rook wood State Hospital and Asylum have been found to be suffering from tuberculous. There are twelve hundred patients in the establishment. Negotiations are proceeding with the Imperial authorities regarding the proposal that Norfolk island should bo taken under the jurisdiction of the Commonwealth, but no finality has been reached.

Mr Pearce has been advised that the full number of rations have been placed aboard the cruise) - Melbourne, which is undergoing a final overhaul and sails for 'Australia early in January. NORTH MOUNT LYELL. Hobart, December 2. The 500 ft level in the North Mount Lyeli was explored, and a body, supposed to be that of the miner lark, Was discovered. There was no sign of fir© at the 400 ft and 500 ft levels, but the temperature was higher than it should have been, indicating apparently that the fire was not extinguished.
