LORD ISLINGTON. (Per Press Association.) Auckland, December 2. Auckland y«ehtsmcm -made <a>- splendid display in the harbour on Saturday afternoon by way of a send-off to Lord Islington, who Was on the yacht Viking. H.M.S. Torch greeted His Excellency with a salue of sixteen guns, after which eighty launches formed up on the starboard and sixty yachts on the port side of the Governor’s yacht. The fleet proceeded to Kohimaram and returned to tiro wharf, the Governor finally acknowledging the salute as each vessel passed. N.Z. COMPETITIONS. Wellington, December 1. The New Zealand competitions closed on Saturday evening. The Town Hall was crowded and all tire champions contributed to a splendid programme. it was 'announced that many entries had already been received for next year’s competitions, also offers of prizes including a grand piano valued at. £125. The financial result of the competitions just closed are reported to be highly satisfactory.
SYDNEY-ATJCKLAND CABLE. Auckland, December 2. The end of the new submarine cable from Sydney via Doubtless Bay was landed by the cable-laying sterner Silverfcown, on Takapuna beach on Sunday.
