It is expected that Mr. Churchill, in the event of accepting the Canadian imitation to visit Vancouver and Esqnimault will, while there, take the opportunity,! possibly, to hold a naval conference to which Australia and New Zealand will bo invited to discuss coordination of the various units for Pacific defence. Naval circles Lope the way will thin be prepared for more frequent naval consultations, and also for the advance of Mr. Fisher’s desire for conferences at shorter intervals. The. Admiralty denies that the mobilisation at Portsmouth has an ulterior purpose, it is merely an experimental tost for a nucleus of flotillas in coaling and provisioning.
