Melbourne, September 10. Whitt on’s score was 321, and that of Sou tor and ioppeluell 326 each. THE NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIP. Wellington, September 16. The Now Aeaiand golf charapionsoip meeting opened to-day on the Here tunga links. The weather was dull, with light showers and a boisterous northerly wind, preventing any sensationarscoring. The greens were rather dead, owing to rain on Saturday and on Sunday evening. Competitors wore present from all parts of the Dominion, practically all the front-rank players taking part. Arthur Duncan, me present open and amateur champion, was not in the irresistible foi .n no showed at Wanganui last year. B. |i. Wood, from Christchurch, played with deadly accuracy, and was favourice. H. B. Lusk, from Christohurca, did not seem so consistent as of yore. Burns and others represented Auckland, and among the Hawke’s Bay representatives were Kurepo and Kapi Tareha. Taranaki, Manawatu, and Wairarapa were all represented. The sensation of the day was the collapse cf the champion in the second round. The scores in the open championship of Now Zealand are as follows:
