(Received 30, 8.30 a..m.) Sydney, May 30. The Commercial Travellers’ Association liras purchased a block with frontages of 64 feet to Pitt and Cas tlereagh Streets. It is understood that the price was £40,000. They will erect fine buildings. The Lord Mayor favours the municipalisation of gasworks and ferries.
Fifty tons of ore from the Malloehen mine, Wyalong, yielded 1069 ounces of smelted gold. Mr McGowen, while sympathising with a deputation favouring stricter enforcement of the law against Sunday trading, declined to interfere. Parliament must decide.
The military authorities proceeded against a senior cadet cadet for having a cigarette in his possession while on duty, and he was fined £2, with the alternative of three weeks’ imprisonment. The Executive has confirmed the death sentence on Ball for wife-mur-der, and commuted the sentence on Moran (for the murder of Mr McDonald at West Maitland) to fifteen years’ Imprisonment. The conference adopted a resolution favouring their abolition.
