p (Per Press Association.l , Levin, May 30. At a meeting at Levin last night the Hon. George Eowlds gave an address in support of the United Labour Party, and besought the workers (including farmers and professional men) to rally round the now party and assist the movement for better social conditions. He contended that “farmers of the land” had nothing to fear from the Labour Party and its increased land tax. The only ones who would be hit would bo the “farmers of the farmer.” He said ho had addressed nineteen meetings in the last seventeen days throughout New Zealand and everywhere ho found that the people, who for periods up to 40 years had been consistent supporters of the Liberal Party, wore looking forward hopefully to what the United Labour Party would do. of Mr Robertson, M.P., a hearty vote of thanks was passed to the speaker. .Dunedin, May 29. At the inquest on the body of Charles Douuie, who was found dead on (Monday night, evidence showed that the deceased had been drinking a good deal since lie came into town on Thursday. Medical evidence was to the effect that dath was due to sudden heart failure, the result of alcoholism and exhaustion. A verdict in accordance with the medical evidence was returned.
