THE DOMAIN BOARD.

ANNEAL MEETING. The annua) meeting of the Stratford Domain Board was held in the Borough Council Chambers this week. There were present: Messrs.. P. F. Halfo (in the chair), 11. McK. Morison, T. H. Penn, and W. P. Kirkwood. In the annual report the work done during the year was set down as clearing and burning a quantity of fern and scrub in King Edward Park, to minimise the risk of fire in dry weather. Plantations had been thinned out where required, trees and hedges trimmed, fences repaired, and noxious weeds attended to. The improvements proposed for the ensuing year were planting, as funds permit, and the extension of the paths along the banks of the rivers in King Edward Park, and if advisable the construction of one or more foot bridges to connect the walks on either side. The balance-sheet was as follows: Assets: Cash in bank £2O 5s Bd, cash in hand £7 10s, rents due £ls, harbour rates £2 3s Sd; total £44 19s 4d. Liabilities: Sundry accounts £4 5s 6d; total £4 5s 6d. .Receipts; Balance brought forward £44 Os 7d, vents of reserves £O6 'ss, sales £2O 7s 3d; total £l3O 12s lOd. Expenditure: New works £23 19s, maintenance £44 2s sd, purchase of trees £5, miscellaneous £29 15s 9d, balance £27 15s 8d: total £l3O 12s lOd.

The report and balance-sheet were adopted without formal discussion, but in the desultory discussion which ensued the opinion was expressed that the Board sho.uld get higher rents for their lands. This is practically their sole revenue.

_ ft was decided to ask tho Borough Council to extend the formation and metalling in Fenton Street as far as ti:e suspension bridge in King Edward Park. It was also decided’ that the Council should 'ho asked to clear away some of the gravel and sand in front of the reserve in Fenton Street, as it not only detracted from tho appearance of the reserve, but prevented a free access to it.

The need of a Beautifying Society was fully discussed, and a motion was passed that the Board should take steps to establish such a Society. A meeting will be called at a suitable date to bring this proposal to some definite form. Accounts amounting to £l7 3s Id weiv passed for payment. Mr. G. N.
