SWIMMING NOTES.

(By Ampin Bios.) The Hawcra Club had a successful open carnival last night, there being a good attendance of spectators and excellent entries. Kivcll (9sec) and Masters (IGsec) started in the 150yds race. Both were well in the hunt up to 75yds, but thereafter they faded away. At 125yds they gave up the ghost, but, going on again, Masters secured fourth place from Kivell. Two other starters developed the tired feeling before the final length was entered on.

The time was 2min, which would have needed to have been the net time of the Stratford men if they were to win.

Kivell (loscc) was the only Stratford starter in the 100yds race. Tho pace was hot throughout, but Kivell kept with the leading division up to 75yds. Here, however, a battle royal took place between Claringbold, Foden and Carr, all of whom put in brilliant work, supplying the best finish of the evening. The time was Imin llsec. The final was swum in Imin 12scc. Masters (4sec) -comfortably won the first heat of the 50yds race, being in front all the way. The time was 32 2-ssec.

Kolly (lOsec) could not secure a place in the second heat, though a handkerchief would have covered the men at the finish. In the final Masters had to stall off a challenge by Glaringbold, but won by a touch in 35sec. The racing throughout the evening was of a high order, but though only securing one place on the prize-list the Stratford men did not • disgrace their club, for it has to be recollected that in Stratford the water in the baths has frequently been known to be cold, and rain showers are not quite unknown in the town, making practice in the water uncomfortable, to say the least. The Ha wer a Club were hearty and considerate in their treatment of the Stratford men, who always come away with pleasant recollections of their visits to Hawera. /

A Hawera contingent of at least a dozen starters has been promised for the' Stratford carnival on March Ist.

The racing on that occasion should, therefore, bo as “classy” as it was at Hawera last night.

In last notes an error crept in regarding the points for the Champion Cup. Kivell secured third place in the 'final of the race on Thursday. He, therefore, has one. point, instead of Jebb, who was wrongly credited with securing a place.

A fair number of swimmers and others' have stated their intention of proceeding to Eltham on Tuesday next.

Others desiring to make the journey should communicate with the secre-

tary. ... 1 Hawera is sending up a drag-ful: perhaps Stratford will bo able to do likewise.
