GERMAN ELECTIONS.
SOCIALISTS MAKE A BIG BID FOR POWER. A BROAD "COMPROMISE. (Received 16, 8.30 a.m.) Berlin, January 15. The Socialists claim to have polled 4,225,000 votes, an increase of 965,000 over last election. The party offers to help any candidate against the Right or Centre on condition that he resists any alteration of the Reichstag franchise and fresh taxation on articles of general consumption. _ No pledge is required as to expenditure on the army or navy.
