NEW ZEALAND TOURNAMENT

Dunedin, December 27

The Now Zealand bowling tournament opened to-day in fairly good weather. The greens were in surprisingly good order considering the climatic conditions prevailing of late. There are throe competitions in the rink matches—Champion, B and C—and when .players have a certain proportion of losses they drop automatically out of the championship class into the C competitions. At close of the day’s play the following were left in the championship : Dunedin green—Mann (Fairfield), Maynard (Ashburton), Cooper (Kaituna), Stevenson (Taieri). Kaituna green—Rayne (Kaituna), Black (Dunedin), Tillie (Caversham), Carswell (Taieri). North-East Valley green—Smith (Kaituna), White (St. Kikla), Young (Green Island), McFarland (St. Kilda). St. Kilda green—Kennedy (Groonmcadows), Bentley (Dunedin), McCurdy (St. Kilda). Carson (Kaituna). Victoria (Barry). 22, beat St. Clair (McPherson), 17. In the second round Victoria (Barry) beat St. Kilda (Smoabon).
