BRIGHT FACES.
PRIZE-GIVING CEREMONY AT THE SCHOOL. DUX LOUDLY APPLAUDED. Outside tho rain was coming down in torrents, hut in the schoolrooms and especially in the room where the little tots were carrying off prizes almost as big as themselves, the dismal weather had no effect. Mr P. Skoglund was faced with a sea of bright, expectant little faces and it was evident that he found his duty of presenting tho prizes to tho primer classes tfa vei'y pleasant one indeed. Ho had a word of praise.for the successful ones, and a word of encouragement for those who had tried hard and would succeed next time. In tho Salvation Army Hall, Mr C. D. Solo presented the proficiency certificates, of which so many have been gained this year, to the big boys and girls, and also gave out the special prizes. When the dux of the school, Master Albert Anderson, walked up to the dais to be presented with the gold medal, he was greeted with a tremendous outburst of cheering.. “It has often been ray pleasant duty,” said Mr C. I). Sole, “to present a medal to the dux of the school, but never have I had the pleasure of giving it to so young a hoy. I trust it will be an object lesson to you all to see what so young a boy can do, and hope that in the days to come we will find young Anderson among the brightest boys in the Dominion.” (Cheers.) Mr Sole then decorated Master Anderson with the medal, which was tho signal for another outburst of cheering. It was evident that young Anderson’s cleverness is in measure with his popularity. At the conclusion Mr Sole asked for three cheers for the two teachers, Mr Thomas and Miss Hart, and these were given with vigour, Mr Thomas calling in turn for cheers for Mr Solo, which were also loud and hearty.
The task of presenting the prizes to tho Ist, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Standards was entrusted to Mr McMillan, and tho function was an eminently , satisfactory one.
We add our congratulations with tho gentlemen who presented the prizes and join with them in wishing the children a Merry Christmas.
