COMING CARNIVAL.

IN AID OF FIRE BRIGADE FUNDS AN APPEAL.

Considerable interest is manifested in the arrival in town of Professor Owen Cardston, of Sydney, who is under engagement to the local Fire Brigade to further their financial position by putting on at the Town Hall in New Year week a carnival entitled “A Dancing Tour of the World.” Professor Cardston’s fame is renowned throughout the Dominion and Australia, and we are in for a real carnival week, in keeping with the larger cities in this Dominion. This worthy object should appeal to all our citizens—every man, woman, and child should come forward and do all in their power to push forward so worthy a scheme. It is needless to point out to the public the value of our brigade’s services, and the risk our volunteers arc taking always, being handicapped with such obsolete plant. To make our town on a level with other cities our progressive brigade are out after a motor engine—a big undertaking for a town of our size —but every citizen will welcome the good news that we will lie oven in greater protection against lire than ever.

Practical help is necessary from our citizens. Professor Cardston’s classes are not quite full up yet, and every mother should send along every child she can spare, no matter how small. There is roonrin the adult classes for about thirty young ladies, and surely tin's will now be forthcoming. The dances are all new to these parts, and all are the latest fancy dances from Homo. The pupils the taught free of charge, and in return are asked to provide a costume at the cost of a couple of . shillings . It behoves our citizens from every quarter in Stratford to come forward and help this big work along. The firemen of Stratford expect every citizen “this day to do his duty” by sending along at least one child to take part in the carnival for so worthy a cause. The children’s classes are held every afternoon from 3.30 to 5 p.m., adults from 7.30 p.m., at the Fire Brigade Hall. Professor Cardston is devoted to children, and immediately establishes a lifelong friendship with all his pupils.
