“A NEWSPAPER’S JUBILEE.” (Per Press Association.) Dunedin, November 14. The “Otago Daily Times” will publish its jubilee issue in the morning. The editor lias received 200 congratulatory messages, which are being published, from prominent ligurcs in political, religious, educational, industrial, commercial, and journalistic circle, these including messages from persons of exalted station. BIG INCREMENT ON LAND. Invercargill, November 14. A sale of a 950-acrc farm at Wallacetown, seven or eight miles from .Invercargill, took place to-day. Four or five years ago this farm changed hands at £lO per acre, and it lias now 1)0 resold at £25 per acre, an increment of £11*250 in the time stated.
GISBORNE BAND CONTEST. Gisborne, November 14. The secretary of the Band Contest Committee has received information to-day that the following test selections have been decided on :—A grade : Grand selection, “La Alascotte” (Andrau), selected and arranged by Air William Short, L.R.A.M. ; gvand selection, “Robert 11 Diavolo” (Meyerbeer), selected and arranged by Wm. Short. B grade selection : “Les Hngnenots” (Meyerbeer), arranged by Air W. Rimmer; selection, “Alaritana” (Wallace), arranged by W. Rimmer. CH RIS'I'CHURCH CA NAL. Chn’stchnrch, November 14. The Hon. E. Mitchelson and Alessrs W. Ecrgnson and .1. E. Watson, the special commission appointed by the Harbour Board to repaid on the commercial aspects of the ‘Sumner Cana) proposal, met at Christchurch to-day. Mr Mitchelson was appointed chairman. The commission will probably sit for a week.
