Wellington, November 7. The following advertisement appears in to-night’s “Post” : Apology.

“With reference to a statement reflecting upon the integrity of Sir Joseph Ward and appearing in the report of Mr. Monckton’s speech at Otaki and published in the issue of the “Otaki Mail” of the 25th October last, I desire to express my sincere regret for having allowed the same to appear in my paper. The statement, which lias absolutely no foundation in fact, was published as above-mentioned through pure inadvertence and without any malice on my part.—(Signed) Frank Penn, proprietor ‘Otaki Mail.’ ”

Christchurch, November 7. The Coronation memorial fund, to defray the cost of the erection and equipment of a home for chronic consumptives, lias closed with a total of £44/0 7s lOd, but some outstanding subscriptions are still to come in. The Government subsidy of 24s in the £ will bring the total to £9834. To-day the Mayor received a very handsome contribution of £353 12s from Greenmasons, North Canterbury. PAYMENT OF MONEY ORDERS. A NEW SYSTEM. (Per Press Association) Invercargill, November 7. Sir Joseph Ward stated at Winton to-night that lie proposed to have os.tablished shortly a new system for payment of money orders by post office, by which that department would send out money to houses of working men, and others, by letter-carriers. Under this proposal, for example, a man in tiie country wishing to send money to his wife, would be able, by giving directions to the post office, to have the money delivered to her direct. This system lias great possibilities, and would meet a real want. »
