HOT WEATHER

The weather is very hot, and some districts are suffering severely from drought.
THE BRODERICK CASE
Sydncv, November 8.
At the inquest on Broderick, his widow stated that deceased had been drinking heavily, and assaulted her and her daughter, whom he threatened to shoot. The son rescued them. Broderick got a rifle and two guns and loaded them, saying lie would shoot the police, who had been sent for. The son snatched the weapons and ran away. Broderick pursued. Suddenly there was a flash, and Broderick fell. The son then threw himself on his father and asked for forgiveness. Broderick replied: “I forgive yon; it was not your fault.”
A SAMOAN CHIEF

The Samoan chief Tomasos has arrived at Sydney. Ha is returning homo from* Germany, whore ho wont to pay homage to the Kaiser.
SEVERE DROPOUT
Brisbane, November 8
There is a severe drought in the western districts. The mail service to Bondi is suspended.
ESCAPED PRISONERS
Brisbane, November 8
Two long-sentenced prisoners minied Craig and Mclntyre escaped from Hie gaol hospital at St. Helena Tsland, secured a boat, and reached the mainland. They are still at large.
