Several newspapers tear a renewal of the railway strike at Christmas, possibly in combination with the miners and railwaymcn. The Llanelh men, who hold the key to the South Wales position, rejected the motion to strike, and substituted' one condemnatory of tiro executive for not declaring a national strike and permitting Government intervention, they deprecated the present ballot, which implied a lack of confidence between the leaders and the men. The meeting also authorised tiro Strike Committee to immediately organise for a strike. The railway companies are conferring with a view to united action in the event of the ballot resulting in a strike. The measures include the enrolment of a large number of special constables and uniformed railway police to protect workers from aggressive picketing. WORK P.ROCEE I)1 NO STEADILY. Sydney, November 7. Work on the wharves is proceeding merrily. Every effort is being made to overtake the congestion. THE MOUNT LYELL DISPUTE. Melbourne, November 7. Another conference of the Mount Lycll directors and representatives of the strikers proved futile. After n short discussion, the directors announced that they were not prepared to, deal with the miners while the threat of the engine-drivers to strike existed. The conference was adjourned- til! Wednesday. Subsequently all the engineers, firemen, and miners, numbering 130, wore ordered out, and ccilscd work. Resides stopping the mines, the electric lighting of the town is cut elf. THE LTTHGOW STRIKE. as Sydney, November 7. Applications have been made to the Arbitration Court for the commitment of warrants against the men fined at Lithgow. It is stated that negotiations for the settlement ofeth-e----strike are proceeding. The matter has boon adiourned for a week.
