McGlenon, chief engineer of the steamer Taviuni, suicided-at his lodgings. The cause is unapparent.
THE NERA-TAVIUNI COLLISION

The Merchant Service Guild lias petitioned the Lieutenant-Governor to grant a rehearing of the _ Nera-Taviuni case on behalf of Captain Heighten. INSURING VALUABLE STAMPS. Sydney, October 18. Tho Philatelic Conference decided to adopt a system of insurance of parcels of valuable stamps transmuted through tiie post, and to ask tho British and New-Zealand Governments to act similarly . FRAUDULENT PEDIGREES. (Received 19, 9.15 a.m.) The Australian Jersey Herd Society has decided to recall volume three of the Herd Book recently issued on account of errors through the inclusion of fraudulent pedigrees. CONGREGATIONAL UNION. Sydney ,_ October 19. The Congregational Union lias protested against ’ “the femere”, decree, and urged that tho Government take steps to vindicate the supreme authority of the law. Speakers condemned tho- totalisator, as it would give gambling a status it did not at present possess.
